Help us keep Stu’s spirit and legacy alive. Support Valley Adaptive Sports so that others can have a wild ride outside, just like Stu.

Stuart Wride loved recreating outdoors. He followed his love for nature and the mountains to Teton Valley to hike, ski, camp, float the Teton River and raise a family. After his accident he continued to live here to pursue his access to the mountains. He was fortunate to have adaptable resources to ski and bike at Grand Targhee. Valley Adaptive Sports provided incredible tools and support so he could recreate independently. He was an inspiration and role model to many and will be sadly missed.

Stuart Evan Wride, 55, of Victor, Idaho, died Sept. 1, 2026, at Teton Valley Hospital from complications related to colon cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones.

Stuart was born July 27, 1971, in Alexandria, Virginia, to Cecil Evan Wride and Thora Jeanne Wride.

He faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage and fortitude. Stuart had lived with paralysis since a 2008 car accident and was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in May 2024. Despite those hardships, he continued to embrace life fully, inspiring those around him with his strength, determination and easygoing spirit.

Stuart worked as an information officer for the U.S. Forest Service in Driggs and as a bookkeeper for Fulcrum Builders LLC in Victor. His dedication to his work was matched by his passion for music and adaptive sports.

A talented guitarist and accomplished sit-skier, Stuart found great joy in music and was a devoted supporter of adaptive sports programs throughout Teton Valley and Jackson. Stuart could always be found on the beloved slopes of Grand Targhee Resort whose staff supported his zest for the mountains.

He was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor and gift for making others laugh. Always ready with a good joke or an engaging conversation, Stuart left a lasting impression on everyone he met and was deeply admired and cherished by his community.

Above all, Stuart was a loving father. He is survived by his sons, Samuel Stuart Wride and Charles Stuart Wride; and his siblings, Michelle (Bob), Eric (Marco), Amy (Lance), Nikki and Paul.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Evan Wride and mother Thora Jeanne Wride.

A celebration of Stuart’s life will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 12, 2026, at the Knotty Pine Supper Club in Victor. Family and friends are invited to gather in his memory and honor the legacy he leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Valley Adaptive Sports, P.O. Box 236, Driggs, ID 83422. Donations may also be made through Valley Adaptive Sports under the “Stu’s Wild Wride” tab.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Idaho Cancer Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Teton Valley Health and Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care and support they provided throughout Stuart’s illness.
